Gas adsorption ‚ÄĒ a process when gases, vapors or liquids are captured by the surface layer of a solid (adsorbent) or liquid.

Adsorbents usually have very big specific surface area (BET surface) ‚ÄĒ up to several hundred square meters per gram. Physical adsorption results from dispersion or electric static forces. In case adsorption is accompanied by a chemical reaction between the solute and the sorbent agent, it is called chemisorption. At the industrial sites, adsorption is performed in specialized adsorption tanks; it is used for gas dehydration, organic liquids and water treatment, capturing valuable or hazardous industrial waste.
